SPRAY TO FORGET functions as a beneficial editor for one’s consciousness, removing undesired memories from the user’s psyche via supported intent. Reed Seifer proposes that “in order to forget, we must remember something else. Spray to Forget acts as a conceptual sideways-elevator, nudging the unconscious to release a difficult memory and replace it with a more appealing one, or to create a new memory through experience… It also happens to smell quite good.”

I've been thinking alot about Nick Cave lately. I first saw his work last year at YBCA's "Meet Me at the Center of the Earth"exhibit. He's a fabric sculptor, dancer, performance artist who is best known for his Sound Suits which are made of twigs, dyed human hair, sisal, plastic buttons, beads, sequins, and feathers.
The reason the I respect him so much is because of the way that he has successfully LIFTED traditional folk craftsmanship into cutting edge modern art + design. IN... glue guns, scissors and scotch tape.
EAT - John's Ocean Beach Cafe
Coffee, Bacon and Eggs please.
Every Sunday morning I meet my friends Charly and Brett for breakfast and we inevitably ponder the same question...where should we eat? Zazie is to crowded, Universal Cafe is too noisy and crowded, Zuni is too expensive. Brett suggested that we try out this super charming, uncrowned restaurant cafe where he often eats after surfing out at Ocean Beach.
Loved it. The food was standard-good. Breakfast and coffee was $10, a bargain by SF standards and the service was friendly and relaxed... yes, relaxed. I found what I've been searching for.

Micheal Wertz and Jim Winters - SONGS IN REVERSE
I love it when fabulous people collaborate
2 of my favorite Bay Area artists Michael Wertz and Jim Winters are working TOGETHER on a a print collaboration titled Songs in Reverse. I just have to start by saying that I've always found something sexy about silk screen printing. The workshop, arms moving back and forth and paint cans being tossed around. The results are stunning and the prints will be shown in conjunction with the SGC conference in Philadelphia in March 2010.
Both artists create illustrations and prints as well as work for ad agencies, musicians, publishers, and movie trailers.
The idea behind the Songs in Reverse show is to highlight a favorite piece of music of each artist, re-contextualizing each song in a queer fashion. Michael chose There’s a Moon in the Sky (Called the Moon) by the B-52’s. Jim chose The Man That I Am With My Man by the Hidden Cameras. Their collaborative print was based on Do You Really Want to Hurt Me by Culture Club. The prints are for sale at their GROOVY online shop.
In my dream I travel the continent in a refurbished 1965 VW van retro-fitted with a solar/hydrogen converted engine. It runs on water and sunlight. Every morning I wake up, practice yoga and do some creative work on my solar powered laptop. I hear a rustling coming from the back of the van. It's my lover. He complains that he is cold and demands that I come back to bed to keep him warm. Everything is simple. We stay in bed all day.
Personally, all you have to do is say David Lynch and I'm there.Yes, I'm sure we'll see people walking out of the theatre in a huff...But isn't that half the fun?
"A surreal descent into a twilight zone created by the twisted sensibilities of two cinematic geniuses." - V.A. Musetto, New York Post
Yes, Yes, I know, everyone is pointing at this year's super blog tribute to loneliness and modernity. I have to say, I love it. A great example of taking a more conceptual bent in the blogosphere.Brilliant.

Patti Smith -Just Kids
I remember the day that I was introduced to Patti Smith's music. I was 15 years old, living in Danville CA and listening mostly to Bowie, Kraftwerk, Eno and Roxy Music. My best friend Erich Brogger called me and said "Myke, there's something that I want you to hear. Can I come over now?" Erich came over and put Horses on my Marantz turnatable. The house was empty so we turned it up REAL LOUD. My thought today is exactly the same as when I first heard these songs..Jesus Fucking Christ. She's a genius...
